On Jan. 16, 24 Allina Health employees will embark on
a trip to Antigua, Guatemala to share their time and talents with the people of
Guatemala. Throughout the week, members of the group will post to this blog about their experiences.
Guatemala is located in Central America with a population of
about 15 million people. It is a beautiful country with amazing people who are
excited to share their country and culture. Seventy-five percent of Guatemalans
live below the poverty line and one third live on less than $2 per day.
Last year, the group provided school supply bags to kids in need through the non-profit organization, Common Hope, and visited La Esquintla Hospital, a public, government-owned hospital. Through the Wakami project, the group also transformed the home of a local family after providing information to the locals about nutrition and healthy habits.
Check back during the week of Jan. 16 - 23 to read what the group is doing this year.
